creating a space for writers to find community (and a couple drinks)

What it’s Called: The Draft House

What it Is: Communal Writers Bar

What it Does: Provides a branded social community bar for writers, authors, and poets. Acts as a hybrid space, serving literature-themed drinks and liquors for consumer enjoyment, while also acting as a productive place to communicate, plan, and learn with other writers.

What I Did: Branding, Brand Identity, Menu Design, Advertising

Advertising: Unfinished Books

The advertising for this project uses recognizable books with their titles left unfinished, leaving all too unfamiliar plot behind, hence the call to action “An unfinished book is dangerous. Find those who can help you with your writing at The Draft House.” While humorous, it is intended to attract those consumers who are interested in literature, as well as demonstrate one of the helpful benefits of the writer’s bar.

Bookmark your Order

  • The menu for the bar is designed as a leather bound book, which customers can mark with the accompanying bookmark to indicate their order.

  • Each drink is labeled after a genre of literature, with the ingredients simulating the tone of each piece

Considering Experience

  • Interior posters are motivational in tone, pushing writers to find inspiration and continue their work. Their content is also inspired by famous literary works.

  • “IOU” cards serve as free drink vouchers, where customers can describe what writing goal they must fulfill before redeeming the voucher
